My DT Card for Let’s Scrap 5-15-13

I loved the sketch for this week.  The card is from a Recollections pack, the solid card stock, ribbon, stamps, ink, punches are Stampin’ Up!  I think the brads were Michael’s too.  And, of course, the metal on the ribbon is a recycled pop top.

I’ve come to realize that I am quite literal when it comes to following sketches or any challenge compared to other scrapbookers/card makers.  I enjoy working the elements I select into the given parameters.   If I want to do something on my own, that is great, but I wouldn’t say I had followed the sketch if I did something different.  Here is an example.  This was the first card I made and it varied too much so I made another for my DT example.j-7257cupcake

I put the ribbon and pearls too high.  I think I have a problem because I find I am getting more OCD now a days.  I’ve had trouble leaving stuff uneven on my cards for a long time, just ask my friends – lol.

My Menu challenge example layout is almost ready.  Can’t reveal it until the 20th, but I am having a great time making flowers out of satin.  I’m also learning what fabric can go through the Big Shot too.

A challenge we are working on right now is a Build a Layout where each day the girls give us another task.  To start we have a layout sketch to use and had to add the photos and a couple of digital images.  That was yesterday.  Today we were to add fabric.  Yea! As if I have a problem with that challenge!  Here is a close up of the flower I made with fabric.DSCN7376_edited-1

The center is a die cut using some heavy lame’ fabric I recently cut.  I plan to add a jewel, brad, or pearl to the center – not sure what yet.

I can’t wait to see what we get to add tomorrow!

Do you have any ideas on how sketches should be followed or how I get over my affliction?

  1. Joyce, I’ve been just enamored by your talent! I LOVE the card you made for this week’s sketch challenge! The addition of the pop-top as a buckle is so clever and very handsome with the brads. I also like the first card you made, but I have to agree with you that as a Design Team member, it is important to guide the less-experienced and illustrate how sketches can be interpreted. While I don’t mind deviations from the sketches…they are meant as inspiration after all, I don’t like it when layouts/cards on the main page look like they have absolutely nothing to do with the sketch. I love that you are a perfectionist and your brilliant work stands as testament!

    • Thanks for the wonderful comments, and the encouragement to “stick to the sketch”. Yea, it bugs me when they don’t.
