A Birthday Card with Giggles Greetings

My two challenges for this card were 1. make it with a humorous stamp and 2. a sketch.

I colored the stamped image from the Stampin’ Up! set with Copics, cut it out and mounted it over the black embossed sentiment which is a part of the actual stamp.  The stars are cut from a TH die with some gold card stock.  The background is cut from a Gelli print I did.  The ribbons are SU.

First Gelli Plate Prints

I didn’t think I would have this much fun.  I had believed it wasn’t necessary, and it still isn’t, to use a Gelli Plate when one could just paint right on a page.  There is an advantage after all.  One gets to try out the colors first.  Once the paint is on the page it would be harder to get the look that appeals where as with the plate if it doesn’t look as appealing it’s easy to redo before putting it to paper.  Also it is easy to add interesting designs before printing. Here are my first 6 papers.DSCN9495_edited-1 DSCN9490_edited-1

Although these may not seem all that exciting, I had a great time experimenting with colors of paint and the use of stencils.  By far my favorite stencil was the Mayan Calendar for this play-day.  I also just used a big comb to make lines.  Prints were formed by layers, as I had learned, to keep the colors from getting muddy.

Not great yet, but I had fun!

There is a nice tutorial on Splitcoaststampers that lays out the process nicely.
